Keep Me In College is a grassroots coalition comprised of students, parents, education leaders and concerned citizens who believe Missouri should continue its tradition of making a college education affordable for all Missouri students attending any eligible Missouri college or university.
We have come together to make our voices heard to Missouri legislators, policymakers and others on issues related to financial aid. Because of the advocacy of Keep Me In College Coalition members, we successfully supported legislation to remove a provision that would have ended Access Missouri, our state’s only need-based financial aid program, in 2013.
We remain united and continue working to remind state leaders about the importance of protecting financial aid – especially need-based financial aid – for our state’s working families.
Our advocacy is essential because the state appropriation for Access Missouri went from a high of $92 million in 2009 to a low of $59 million in 2012. Thanks to the good work of Keep Me In College members, Missouri lawmakers have been steadily restoring funding.
We must remain vigilant if we are to restore awards to the statutory maximum of $2,850 for 4-year students and $1,300 for 2-year students. It’s unfair to balance Missouri’s budget on the backs of college students who are already having trouble making ends meet.
Access Missouri is working for Missouri 's working families. All of us deserve the chance to obtain a college education. Access Missouri should remain in tact and should be fully funded to provide students meaningful awards.
We invite you to join us to keep college in reach for all of us. Signing up will cost you nothing, but it could keep you – or your friends – in college.
